Marc-A
Also strange but fascinating is his Le rivage des Syrtes. I'm going to the library later today, maybe I should borrow Un balcon en forêt or his travel notes.
Julien Gracq's novels have never had a mass appeal, possibly due to Gracq's discretion and lack of interest in public exposure and the Saint-Germain-des-Prés crowd.
I never read any Gracq, probably because he was too lauded when I was an English novels lover teenager, but Erwin and Marc are inciting me. I know A has books by him.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Good choice, Marc. I think that you will enjoy Un balcon en fôrêt.

That was, as my kids would say (either) "sweet" or "sick", barry. (Both are current for "cool".)

Ladeeeeees and gennelmennnnn!!
It is the 1st of September, the first day of calendrical spring, and it has been positively balmy, remaining so heading into the night. Stunningly different to any other day in the last three months and the warmest since May. It's as if God flicked the climate switch. Don't care if it's still cold now and then. This fracking winter is over.
Warmest September 1st in Sydney for 140 years.
You sound like Steve Case.
- My my my my my! I am just ever so pleased that I am on your mind!

Steve, are you getting out Asian carp fishing much? I heard they made it past the electronic frontier and were spotted only a few miles from Lake Michigan.
Much talk about that locally?
It will be great for the fish fries throughout the region!

There's already a very heavy commercial fishery underway, or planned, for Asian carp. Their destination will be China.
Those carp don't look like they'd be much fun if you were waterskiing or driving an open boat at more than 5 mph. You can sure see how people could get killed by them.
My god, what a fucking disaster.
The guy's face in that picture says it all...

So far the little pond by my back yard only has the regular kind of
carp which is also an exotic.
I don't hold much hope out for preserving the natural world as it was
prior to Columbus or the Norse men for that matter. Sooner or later
all the various species mostly because of human action but not always
will propagate around the world.
Some time in the future and for the most part now, the only place you
can see living mega fauna such as lions and tigers and the like will
be in preserves and zoos. Get used to it.
The only mega fauna that's going to continue in its native habitat
into the future is the polar bear because we can't and don't want to
live where it lives.

Use the line once, it is reasonably effective.
Use the line twice, three times, less so, but still works as far as needling.
Use the line a lot, and it becomes obvious that it's just a line, and that you need new ones, at that.
Use the line every single time your name comes up, and you're an object lesson in neuropathy.
I'm going to use that line every time someone brings my name up out of
the blue. If you don't like it, that just too bad. By the way, do you
still think carbon doesn't burn?
I'm just ever so delighted to the point of having a vicarious orgasm because I'm on your mind, Stevie Baby!

If you don't like it, that just too bad.
It's more 'morbid fascination' than dislike.
By the way, do you still think carbon doesn't burn?
Adding to the morbid fascination. I've forgotten more about carbon combustion than you're ever likely to learn.
