I have been reading about the 1931 Lautenbach Plan in Germany. The situation then is very much like the situation now, the German economy was in shambles and was being pressured to undertake an austerity program. Hyperinflation had taken place after the printing of more than enough money to nominally pay off the reparations debt.
Various plans were offered, the most documented one being the Lautenbach Plan, which proposed that steps similar to what FDR.
In response Montagu and Schacht provided the financing to install Hitler. It is argued that had these plans been put into place, there would have been no WWII.
Each article covers the same ground, but I found very little overlap between them.

Excerpts:
On November 24, 2003 of this year, Professor Herbert Giersch , formerly one of the "Five Wise Men," headed up the World Economic Institute in Kiel, wrote in Welt am Sonntag. on the current deteriorating economic situation:
- "Seventy years ago, when the worldwide economic crisis erupted, a group of noted economists of various persuasions, including Wagemann, Woytinsky, Baade, Lautenbach, Lombard, Loewe, and Lederer, sought to build enthusiasm among the political class and in public opinion, for its policy of active government expenditures. Quite probably it could have cost the National Socialists their victory in the Summer of 1932."
- "The natural course for overcoming economic and financial emergency," is "not to limit economic activity, but to increase it, because the market, in the current conditions of simultaneous depression and world monetary crisis, no longer intervenes." -- Dr. Wilhelm Lautenbach, Possibilities for Reviving Economic Activity, by Means of Investment and Expansion of Credit, at September 16-17, 1932 conference at the Friedrich List Society
... Many historians today have surmised that with his deflation policy, Brüning wanted to intentionally ruin the economy in order to make the point that Germany could not pay the reparations. At the time, there were indeed negotiations for debt relief, the so-called Hoover Moratorium. But that came too late for Brüning, and this terrified him; he had an image of himself as a marathon runner, who was only 100 meters away from the finish-line, but who couldn't run the final stretch.
... If Woytinsky's proposals, and those of Lautenbach, had been implemented in 1931, the conditions would not have existed for two years as they did, making it possible for the Nazis to seize power. And if von Schleicher had had even a mere six months' time to implement his program, the same would have been true. Which is to say that if, in Germany, people had been able to follow the same policy as Franklin Delano Roosevelt in America, in all probability, World War II would never have happened.

The Bush government will declare martial law on November 1, 2004!!! Just in Texas?
from email
http://www.parapolitics.info/media/aj040819.mp3 (4MB) is radio interview on the Alex Jones show with an officer in the Texas National Guard who says he and his fellow National Guard members have received training to implement "martial law" in the United States. He says they have been told the Bush government will declare martial law on November 1, 2004. The Texas National Guard officer says they were warned not to tell any media personnel about this Bush government plan to declare martial law on November 1, 2004. And of course, the REASON the Bush government is choosing November 1, 2004 is to be able to cancel the election. ... What this Texas National Guard officer is saying about the Bush government getting National Guard soldiers trained to implement martial law is absolutely true and I have confirmed it.

`P2OG' allows Pentagon to fight dirty
5 November 2002
... [Defense Science Board (DSB) conducted a 2002 Summer Study on Special Operations and Joint Forces in Support of Countering Terrorism which recommended] the creation of a super-Intelligence Support Activity, an organization it dubs the Proactive, Preemptive Operations Group (P2OG), to bring together CIA and military covert action, information warfare, intelligence and cover and deception. For example, the Pentagon and CIA would work together to increase human intelligence (HUMINT) forward/operational presence and to deploy new clandestine technical capabilities.
To bolster government HUMINT capabilities, the task force advances the idea of an intelligence "surge/unsurge" capability -- a "robust, global cadre of retirees, reservists and others who are trained and qualified to serve on short notice, including expatriates". This group could be pressed into service during times of crisis.
P2OG would launch secret operations aimed at "stimulating reactions" among terrorists and states possessing weapons of mass destruction, meaning it would prod terrorist cells into action, thus exposing them to "quick-response" attacks by US forces. The means by which it would do this is the far greater use of special operations forces.
Responsibility and accountability for the P2OG would be vested in a "Special Operations Executive" in the National Security Council (NSC). ...

I have just run across a remarkable statement.
- Halford J. Mackinder had just become director of the London School of Economics and his reputation as a geopolitician had spread to Germany where Major-General Karl Haushofer, the ghostwriter of Hitler's Mein Kampf, acknowledged Mackinder as the source of his ideas.

Further to a question you asked me to pose to an Arab friend of mine, klatu.
From Ha'aretz Daily, Israel
PA unveils Israeli intelligence scheme, denies Gaza links to bin Laden
Early last week, Rashi Abu Sba, head of the preventive security apparatus in Gaza, the equivalent of the Shin Bet, accused the Israeli security service of tricking young Palestinians into conducting missions in the name of Al-Qaida. Last Tuesday, a young man named Ibrahim was presented to reporters in Gaza. Ibrahim hid his face behind a mask, and told what happened to him.
[...]
...Palestinian involvement in Al-Qaida has been the exception to the rule, and the rule is that so far, Palestinian involvement in international Islamic terror has been very marginal. The great fear is that groups spawned by bin Laden's organization could put the Palestinian issue high on their agenda, drawing increasing numbers of Palestinians to their ranks.
That worries both Israel and the Palestinians. The Israeli fear is self-evident. The Palestinian fear needs an explanation. Those worried on the Palestinian side are the elite and the veteran national leadership headed by Arafat. They conducted a decades-long campaign for national liberation, and many Christians were in their ranks. Now they watch with trepidation how Islamic fanatics are taking the campaign out of their hands. It is not merely a question of leadership; it is about the Palestinian agenda: Is the struggle for liberation a secular national or religious-Muslim one? Judging by Arafat's statements and those of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the question is whether the campaign is to establish a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza or to liberate all the holy lands of Palestine, making it a single Islamic wakf. True, Hamas and Al-Qaida so far have different agendas, but bin Laden's growing involvement among Palestinians could change that very quickly.

Thanks. I read a report in EIR about two years ago in which the Palestinians alleged in a press conference that the Israelis were forming a (probably fake) Al Queda cell which they would then blame on the Palestinians.
What does he think about Israel's preparation for war on Iran?
